Bećirović: ZAVNOBiH was a major turning point in the entire history of Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Patria) - The State Anti-fascist Council for the National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ZAVNOBiH) is a place of pan-Bosnian gathering, synthesis, a place and an event that tells us that the way forward is not in quarrels, bickering and hatred, but in cooperation, dialogue, and unity.

This was stated today in Sarajevo by member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, after he, along with the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić, laid flowers at the Kovači Cemetery and the grave of the first President of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegović, as part of the commemoration of November 25, Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Addressing the press teams, Bećirović congratulated all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stating that all people in our country can and should be proud of this great holiday.

Bećirović assures that sooner or later, a new generation must prevail throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will firmly direct it towards the future, respecting all the great events from our past.

He emphasizes that ZAVNOBiH was a major turning point in the entire history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to him, the alternative to ZAVNOBiH, that anti-fascist assembly, was two months later - the Ravna Gora Chetnik Congress.

- If the idea of ZAVNOBiH, of a whole Bosnia and Herzegovina, of the equality of all citizens and peoples, had not won, the Chetnik concept which envisaged the creation of "Greater Serbia" would have won.

Fortunately, thanks to the anti-fascists, Bosnia and Herzegovina restored its statehood - Bećirović added.

He stresses that it is not true that Bosnia and Herzegovina lacks continuity.

- Even Dayton could not destroy the foundations of ZAVNOBiH, which recognized the historical borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but Dayton also confirmed those borders. ZAVNOBiH proclaimed the equality of all citizens and peoples, but this is also proclaimed in the current constitution.

It should be taken into account that Bosnia and Herzegovina has its centuries-long continuity as a state, and all of us in Bosnia and Herzegovina, regardless of ethnic, religious, or other affiliation, can be proud of our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina - Bećirović stated.
