Bećirović takes a firm stance: No more concessions to Dodik or relativizing attacks on the constitutional order

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović discussed the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina with High Representative Christian Schmidt, in light of serious attacks on the constitutional order and recent sanctions imposed by the US against political officials from the BiH entity of Republika Srpska.

During the conversation, Bećirović emphasized, among other things, that at this moment there is no more important topic than the protection of the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it is the fundamental prerequisite for intensifying European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Politicians who underestimate or relativize attacks on the constitutional order are directly working in favor of Milorad Dodik's policy.

"The latest US sanctions are justified, and it is necessary to stop the attack on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Key institutions that guarantee peace and security have been attacked, namely the High Representative and the Constitutional Court of BiH. There can be and must be no bargaining over these institutions with the perpetrators of attacks on the constitutional order. The international community should end separatist activities and dangerous attacks on the foundations of the Dayton Peace Agreement with concrete measures as soon as possible.

It is better to prevent the destruction of the Dayton Peace Agreement with concrete measures than to allow irresponsible individuals to endanger thirty years of building peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Bećirović.

High Representative in BiH Christian Schmidt stated that the OHR is closely monitoring the development of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and keeping all options open. All instruments for protecting the Dayton Peace Agreement are on the table, Schmidt emphasized.

Bećirović stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the West are at a crossroads. He said that the foundations of the Dayton Peace Agreement are threatened and that there must be no more concessions to destructive policy. The BiH Presidency member stressed that the OHR, the countries witnessing the Dayton Agreement, and the legal bodies of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina can and must no longer tolerate the legal violence by the authorities of the RS entity, as this could have unforeseeable consequences.
