Bećirović for Albanian Shekulli: Four wars for borders in the Balkans, and none were moved

(Patria) - Throughout history, attempts at territorial exchange have brought suffering and misfortune, stated the director of the International Institute for Middle Eastern and Balkan Studies IFIMES from Ljubljana, Zijad Bećirović, for the Albanian portal Shekulli (Shekulli), commenting on the announcements that a territorial exchange could occur between Serbia and Kosovo.

“Vučić and Thaci have already caused enough misfortune to their citizens through their political actions and governance, so they do not need new misfortunes. Four wars for borders have recently been fought in the region, and not a single border has been moved by a millimeter. This is playing with human destinies just so Vučić and Thaci can politically survive. A dangerous and harmful game,” said Bećirović, reports NAP.

The director of IFIMES emphasizes that the “Prespa Agreement” between Macedonia and Greece has shown that, despite everything, it is possible to reach compromises even on the biggest multi-decade problems.

“I would quote the former president of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić, who said that the Prespa Agreement is perhaps the most important bilateral agreement between two countries after World War II,” said Bećirović.
