Bećirović: The High Representative has a mandate to stop anti-Dayton activities

(Patria) - Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović spoke today with the High Representative in BiH Christian Schmidt.

Bećirović emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina has made important progress in the past year and expects the European Council to make a decision on opening EU accession talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 21.

The European Commission has already given its positive opinion, and the European Council's decision should be a confirmation of the progress achieved.

Numerous current issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region were discussed during the meeting.

Bećirović emphasized that the announcement of the "Great Easter Assembly" of Serbia and the BiH entity of Republika Srpska is absolutely unacceptable in a democratic and civilized world. International law must apply equally to all Western Balkan countries.

- Holding the "Great Easter Assembly" of Serbia and an administrative-territorial unit within the independent, sovereign, and indivisible state of Bosnia and Herzegovina would undermine the fundamental international principles governing relations among United Nations member states - Bećirović stated.

Schmidt congratulated Bećirović on assuming the chairmanship of the BiH Presidency. He conveyed the Office of the High Representative's expectations that BiH will take important steps towards its European future in the coming months.

During the conversation, the High Representative emphasized that the state borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina are internationally recognized and protected, and that there can be no dispute regarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He added that in the year of the local elections, significant emphasis must be placed on ensuring a democratic environment.

- In this regard, it is important to ensure the conditions for fair and honest elections - Schmidt pointed out.
