(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović extended condolences on the passing of academician Dževad Jahić:
"With deep sadness, I received the news of the passing of academician Dževad Jahić, our prominent philologist and writer, whose departure has meant the loss of one of the most significant figures in the contemporary history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. His contribution to the foundation and development of Bosnian studies as a science is invaluable.
Through decades of work on the Dictionary of the Bosnian Language, academician Jahić undertook a historic endeavor, indebted to future generations. It was a great responsibility, pleasure, and pride to collaborate with him.
We will remember academician Dževad Jahić as a man truly dedicated to the fight for the equality of the Bosnian language within the South Slavic linguistic community. Through the fight for the Bosnian language, as the foundation of our identity, academician Jahić also fought for the strengthening of an independent and sovereign Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which all its citizens will have full
freedoms and rights. He believed that a free society could only be achieved when linguistic freedoms were attained.
To the family, friends, and all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who respected the work of academician Dževad Jahić, I extend my deepest condolences. I wish the family patience, and to our academician Dževad Jahić, eternal peace!"
