Bećirović warns EU: Dodik's actions a threat to peace and stability in BiH

(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović held a meeting with Marta Kos, European Union (EU) Enlargement Commissioner, discussing the current situation in BiH and the challenges slowing down its European path.

Bećirović emphasized that membership in the EU and NATO are strategic goals of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He pointed out that the destructive actions of the former president of Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, and his associates have slowed down reform processes and endangered the constitutional order of BiH, thus losing momentum after obtaining candidate status and opening negotiations for EU membership.

He warned that the continuation of anti-Dayton and unconstitutional activities poses a serious threat to peace and stability and requires a decisive response. He particularly emphasized the importance of the unimpeded functioning of the Office of the High Representative of the international community and the Constitutional Court of BiH, which he identified as key institutions for protecting the constitutional order and the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Bećirović thanked the EU for its continuous support of the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that BiH's foreign policy remains aligned with the EU's foreign and security policy.

Commissioner Marta Kos stated that she firmly believes in the European future of BiH, emphasizing that state institutions must be respected. She encouraged the continuation of reform processes, highlighting that their implementation is a key prerequisite for opening accession negotiations with the EU.

She added that the European Commission strongly supports BiH institutions in strengthening the rule of law and improving institutional functionality, and expects decisive commitment from all political actors in fulfilling European priorities.
