Bećirović: This year we must be decisive and united against all who would destroy BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Delegate in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament and SDP Vice-President Denis Bećirović addressed citizens with a New Year's message on Facebook, and along with congratulations to citizens on the new year, he emphasized that 2022 will be crucial for our homeland. 

"At the beginning of this crucial year for our country, I want to sincerely thank you and express my respect for all that you have done so far for our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thank you for believing in the idea of a free, democratic, and indivisible Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is only one country, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it alone is the guarantee of our survival. Extremist Milorad Dodik and his henchmen have "stepped into the Daytonian Rubicon" and if they are allowed to cross it, alea iacta est (the die is cast). In that case, we face a decisive battle of the legal organs of the internationally recognized state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, defending the legal constitutional order, freedom, domestic and international law against hardened extremists who do not hide that they are followers of finally convicted war criminals," stated Bećirović.

He adds that democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina, like the entire democratic world, must be ready to help the legal state organs with all available potential to stop the extremists who plan to do what criminals Radovan Karadžić, Ratko Mladić, Biljana Plavšić, Momčilo Krajišnik, and others failed to do through brutal force, genocide, and other crimes.

"The state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a full member of the United Nations and has the right and obligation to legally sanction all those who move to destroy it on its state territory. In that case, the crucial battle of legality against lawlessness, modern civilization against political vandalism, justice against injustice, and democracy against totalitarianism begins. All of us who love our country must gather together under the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina. United under the state flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we are invincible. Divided due to petty power struggles and driven by politicians' egos, we can fall into great trouble. Therefore, the year ahead is not a year for divisions, egos, and failed patterns of political action; this is a year for awareness, connection, and the most decisive resistance to those who seek to destroy our country," Bećirović conveyed.

He also stated that we are entering 2022 facing the dangerous threat of irredentism, one of the most dangerous forms of nationalism.

"Irredentism is a form of secession whose goal is not to create an independent state but to annex parts of one country's territory to another. The conflict policy of irredentism poses a threat to peace, domestic and international law. Irredentism abuses the right to self-determination of peoples by putting it in the service of realizing a Greater National – Pan-National state. For the sake of truth, it should be emphasized that the principle of self-determination of peoples was also abused by the darkest totalitarian regimes of the last century, using the ambiguity of this principle to achieve irredentist and expansionist goals. Anti-Dayton and anti-constitutional actions of the ruling politicians in the BiH entity of RS have, among other things, elements of irredentism, the ultimate goal of which is the annexation of parts of the state territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the foreign country of Serbia. The domestic and international public must understand that the fundamental problem of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not with the politicians from the BiH entity of RS, but with the dangerous expansionist policy of the Serbian regime of Aleksandar Vučić. It is no coincidence that the Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandar Vulin, recently stated that the command center from which moves are made to create a "Serbian world" is located in Belgrade. This term is used to avoid using the compromised term Greater Serbia, even though the meaning and goal remain the same," stated the SDP Vice-President in his Facebook address.

Bećirović also says that we are witnessing the beginning of an open attack on the peace process and the constitutional order of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

"Similar to the 1990s, our country is being attempted to be destroyed, primarily in two ways: 1. by destroying the legal institutions of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and 2. by discrediting and politically marginalizing its pro-Bosnian cadres. At the beginning of 2022, I publicly call on the presidents of the ruling and opposition parties not to conduct negotiations on important state issues without the current Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić, a man who received the greatest trust from the citizens of our country in the last general elections. Our homeland needs unwavering fighters in these difficult moments, not "political spineless individuals". We must all be maximally cautious, well-organized, well-trained, and active as never before. We must not be surprised by any scenario in 2022, because even 1% of political extremists in important positions can lead 99% of the population into collective misfortune.

We do not need to cry and lament over the fate of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because our glorious ancestors had a similar fate. We must be worthy of our ancestors and move much more decisively and wisely into the fight for a democratic, Euro-Atlantic, secular, just, and indivisible state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We must collectively change, become aware, and shake off this lethargy. The strength of Bosnia and Herzegovina lies in its people and its spirit. The destroyers of our homeland will, sooner or later, go into the dustbin of history. Unlike them, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a future. I steadfastly believe in the future of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina!" concluded Bećirović.
