Bećirović in Brussels spoke with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo

(Patria) - As part of an official visit, the Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović spoke in Brussels with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium Alexander De Croo.

This is an important meeting given that the Kingdom of Belgium holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU from 1 January 2024 to 30 June 2024.

Bećirović pointed out the importance of Belgium's six-month presidency of the Council of the EU and thanked for the concrete support that the Kingdom of Belgium provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards European integration.

He particularly highlighted the significance of opening the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Sarajevo, as well as the fact that this year marks 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the talks, Bećirović pointed to the possibilities of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, stating that the current level of trade between the two countries can be improved.

- Bosnia and Herzegovina is open to Belgian investors, so the work of the newly opened Chamber of Commerce of Belgium and Luxembourg in Bosnia and Herzegovina will further contribute to establishing institutional cooperation and connecting businessmen from the two countries - Bećirović stressed.

Prime Minister De Croo congratulated the Chair of the Presidency of BiH on the opening of EU negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized the readiness of the Kingdom of Belgium to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European integration processes.

- In the coming period, important tasks lie ahead for Bosnia and Herzegovina in terms of harmonization with European norms and standards. Approaching the EU will contribute to the economic strengthening of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the rule of law - De Croo concluded.
