Bećirović in Baku: Let's be on the same side in the fight against the climate crisis

(Patria) - Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović addressed the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) today.

First of all, I thank the hosts, Azerbaijan and the United Nations, for organizing this important conference.

The state of our planet is worrying. Accelerated climate change is the result of irresponsible human actions.

Through the industrialization of the Earth, man has endangered nature, and thus endangered himself. The path our civilization is currently taking leads to disaster.

One of the key problems today is the complete erosion of morality. We witness some great nations preaching heaven while practicing hell. Both people and nature suffer because of such policies.



One of the biggest obstacles in the fight against the climate crisis is state egoism. Unfortunately, certain countries consider this not to be a critical issue for the current generation and postpone its resolution to future generations.

This way of thinking is profoundly wrong. The challenges are different for each of our countries, but the goal is common. Let's be on the same side in the fight against the climate crisis.

The growing climate crisis demands changes in our value system. To mitigate the climate crisis, it is necessary, among other things, to focus on more responsible policies that promote nature protection, improve green financing standards, strengthen climate diplomacy, educational programs that encourage climate innovation, and empower the new generation of climate leaders.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is determined to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, achieve climate neutrality, carry out an energy transition, and contribute to the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is actively working on adopting the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan. The document defines Bosnia and Herzegovina's strategic commitment in the process of decarbonizing the energy sector by 2030, with a clear horizon until 2050.

In the end, let's not forget, the Earth does not belong to man, but man belongs to the Earth. Let's continue our fight against climate change. It is a fight for our future.
