(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović met in Washington in the building of the United States Senate (USA) with US Senators Jeanne Shaheen, member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Chris Van Hollen, member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Thom Tillis, member of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
Bećirović thanked the senators for the long-standing support of the United States to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and emphasized the importance of continuing a strong transatlantic partnership as an important prerequisite for accelerating Bosnia and Herzegovina's Euro-Atlantic integration. He stressed that the US was a key player in establishing peace and building the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that their role today is equally important in preserving stability and advancing the democratic order in the country.
During the conversation with these US senators, Bećirović pointed to the anti-Dayton activities of the political leadership of the BiH entity RS, with the support of Russia and Serbia.
"The moves of the leadership of the RS entity represent a serious threat to the Dayton Peace Agreement, as well as to peace in the entire region. He stressed that attempts to dismantle the state and undermine the constitutional order are a direct threat to peace and security," said Bećirović.
He also warned about the duplicitous policy of the leaders of the RS entity who are realizing Russian interests, while at the same time trying to present themselves as partners of the West. Such hypocritical actions have suffered a debacle because everyone in the West knows the true face of their policy.
Bećirović emphasized the significance of the enormous American contribution to defense sector reforms, the development of the Armed Forces of BiH, and the country's security capacities. Strengthening the defense and institutional capacities of the state, with the support of partners from the US, is important for preserving stability and eliminating malignant influences from third parties.
Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Chris Van Hollen, and Thom Tillis confirmed their commitment to supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as its progress on the Euro-Atlantic path.
Bećirović emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains firmly committed to cooperation with the United States as a key ally in preserving peace, stability, and common democratic values.
Today, at the initiative of the BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović, a meeting will also be held with the US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
