(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović spoke in Washington, in the building of the United States Senate (US) with the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, James Risch (Republican Party).
During a substantive meeting in the Senate, Bećirović explained in detail the essence of the security crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The leadership of the BiH entity RS has openly attacked the essential parts of the Dayton Peace Agreement and is doing so in coordination with those forces that desire the destabilization of this part of Europe. Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region are, for the first time since 1995, facing separatist politicians in the RS entity
who are ready to sacrifice peace for their personal interests.
Bećirović emphasized that the leaders of the BiH entity RS are trying to hide the fact that their policy is pro-Russian and anti-Western, as evidenced by their public statements made for years. Undermining Bosnia and Herzegovina also means undermining Western influence in the Balkans. At the same time, it means strengthening Russian influence in the region. The leadership of the RS entity is creating space for the expansion of Russian influence – they are increasingly aligning their policies with
Moscow, using political support to weaken the influence of the US and the West in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina wants to build a strong partnership with America in the energy sector as well. BiH authorities are ready to cooperate concretely with President Trump's administration, especially on the construction of the Southern Gas Interconnection.
Senator Risch stated that the United States supports the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that it is very important for everyone to respect the Dayton Peace Agreement in its entirety.
Otherwise, this is the second meeting between Bećirović and Risch in the last three months, within comprehensive diplomatic activities aimed at truthfully informing key Western countries about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
