Bećirović with French Senators: Support for the Independence, Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of BiH

(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović received a delegation of the France – Western Balkans Friendship Group in the Senate of the French Republic, led by the Group's President Senator Marta de Cidrac. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the French Republic to BiH François Delmas.

Chairman of the Presidency Denis Bećirović, while welcoming the French senators, assessed that the overall relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the French Republic are good and friendly. He expressed gratitude for France's support in all areas, especially in the decision to open accession negotiations with the European Union.

Bećirović deemed important the increased engagement of France in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, in the context of preserving political, economic and security stability.

The discussion also covered the adoption of the resolution on July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica committed in 1995. Dr. Bećirović expressed gratitude to France and its President Emmanuel Macron for supporting the resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, assessing it as yet another confirmation of the friendly relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and France.

Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Dr. Denis Bećirović emphasized that the adoption of the resolution in the UN General Assembly will highlight the global importance of genocide prevention, and that its adoption will, among other things, contribute to building sustainable peace and encourage the process of justice, truth and trust in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans region.

During the conversation, Senator Marta de Cidrac stressed that France supports the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was emphasized that France, as a witness to the Dayton Peace Agreement, will continue to support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the French Senate (Upper House), the France - Western Balkans Friendship Group operates. The President of the Friendship Group for the Western Balkans in the current term is Marta de Cidrac. The delegated president for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the group is Didier Mendelli. The France - Western Balkans Friendship Group contributed to France's support for obtaining a visa-free regime for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and supports its path to the EU.
