Bećirović with top EU official: Vučić wants to provoke unrest in BiH in the style of Milošević

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović spoke today with President of the European Council Antonio Costa, within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.

During the conversation with the highest EU official, Bećirović pointed out that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, wants to transfer unrest from Serbia to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He emphasized that the leadership of Serbia, with Vučić at the helm, unfortunately, does not respect European values, standards, and principles, but is pursuing a dangerous policy that could ignite the entire Balkans.

He also said that there is information that Vučić, in the style of Slobodan Milošević, wants to stop unrest in Serbia by provoking unrest in neighboring countries.

- The situation is very serious and threatens escalation. The Declaration on the so-called All-Serbian Assembly is particularly dangerous, as it is completely contrary to the values and standards of the EU.

Vučić's political concept of "one people, one assembly, one leader" is reminiscent of the darkest parts of European history.

Europe underestimated the danger of Slobodan Milošević at the beginning of the nineties, and now it must not underestimate an even greater danger - said Bećirović.

He thanked his interlocutor for the EU's continuous support and emphasized Bosnia and Herzegovina's commitment to implementing necessary reforms and meeting European standards.

He also added that membership in the EU, in addition to full membership in NATO, is the key foreign policy goal of our country.

In this regard, he stressed the obligation to work on strengthening the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the rule of law, and economic development, in order to ensure better conditions for all citizens.

Among other things, Bećirović pointed out the importance of the fact that for the first time, the foreign policy of Bosnia and Herzegovina is fully aligned with the EU's positions.

He also said that two important laws for the start of negotiations with the EU were recently adopted - the Law on Border Control and the Law on Personal Data Protection.

President of the European Council Antonio Costa expressed strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling key priorities necessary for progress towards full membership in the EU.

He expressed the EU's commitment to providing concrete assistance and support through various funds and programs, with the aim of accelerating the reform process and improving the living standards of citizens.

He emphasized that the future of the Western Balkans lies in the EU and that EU enlargement is the best geostrategic investment in peace, security, and stability on the European continent.

The interlocutors also pointed out the importance of aligning domestic laws with the EU acquis communautaire and fighting corruption and strengthening the judicial system, as factors important for BiH's progress.

During the meeting, economic prospects that the European integration process brings to Bosnia and Herzegovina were also discussed, including attracting foreign investment, infrastructure development, and improving the business environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting concluded with a joint message that the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the European Union, with the support and partnership of the EU in achieving this goal.
