Bećirović with Murphy: US will not allow the peace and independence of BiH to be jeopardized

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović discussed the current political situation and challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina with US Ambassador Michael Murphy.

Bećirović stated that dangerous anti-Dayton and anti-constitutional policies must not be ignored and that competent authorities must act in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution and laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the final decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH.

Ambassador Murphy emphasized that the United States of America will not stand idly by regarding anti-Dayton actions by authorities in the Republika Srpska entity.

He stated that the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina are guaranteed by the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Furthermore, the interlocutors stressed that the Dayton Peace Agreement and the BiH Constitution do not grant any right to secession to any entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ambassador Murphy said that the US will act if there are attempts to break up Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that the US will defend the Dayton Peace Agreement.

He emphasized that the Republika Srpska and FBiH entities are integral parts of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and do not exist outside the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Dayton Peace Agreement and the BiH Constitution do not provide for any right to secession.

Bećirović stated that in the current circumstances, it is most important to protect the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and stop destructive policies.

During the conversation, he thanked for the continuous and strong support of the US to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its Euro-Atlantic path.

He also stated that the circumstances in our country, the region, and Europe require a stronger engagement from the US to accelerate necessary reforms.

He also highlighted the importance of joint action by democratic forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the US and other strategic partners of Bosnia and Herzegovina in ensuring a functional and stable Bosnia and Herzegovina.
