(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović spoke with the Secretary General
of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha.
Bećirović thanked for the OIC's support to the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for the personal support of the OIC Secretary General to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He particularly welcomed the OIC's affirmative stance on the need to adopt a Resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide. He invited the OIC Secretary General to attend the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in and around Srebrenica.
During the meeting, Bećirović pointed out the serious security challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the aggressive attacks on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the leadership of the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska. He said that the anti-Dayton separatist actions of the RS authorities have directly endangered the security and peace in our country.
OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha expressed support for preserving the unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and international subjectivity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also announced the continuation of OIC support to the survivors of the Srebrenica genocide and the Srebrenica Memorial Center, through economic, educational, and humanitarian projects.
During the conversation, the importance of OIC resolutions on Bosnia and Herzegovina, adopted by the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, was highlighted, especially the Resolution adopted on August 29, 2024, in Cameroon, which comprehensively supports our country and the positive processes within it. It was emphasized that the OIC was very active and committed in providing support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the period 1992-1995.
The possibilities of improving all forms of cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the OIC, in which Bosnia and Herzegovina has observer status, were also discussed, particularly in the economic sphere.
The OIC currently has 57 member states on four continents and represents a population of over
1.8 billion inhabitants. The OIC has permanent delegations to the United Nations and the European
Union.
