Bećirović spoke with Mayor of The Hague van Zanen, thanked him for the monument to the victims of genocide in Srebrenica

(Patria) - As part of an official visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, BiH Presidency Chairman Denis Bećirović spoke with Mayor of The Hague Jan van Zanen at The Hague City Hall.

Bećirović emphasized that Sarajevo and The Hague are cities whose mention carries great symbolism.

During the conversation, Bećirović thanked Mayor Van Zanen for his personal commitment, who in 2020 issued approval for the construction of a monument dedicated to the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica in The Hague. It was emphasized that it is very important for the realization of this project to begin as soon as possible.

The construction of the monument to the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica is of great importance to the families of the genocide victims, my country, and our civilization. It is the duty of all of us to contribute to developing a culture of remembrance in Europe and the world, Bećirović stated. Also, the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Dr. Denis Bećirović, referred to the significant activities connecting the youth of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands, and the exceptional cooperation between the city of The Hague and the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in The Hague.

He said that it is necessary to organize tourist promotion of Bosnia and Herzegovina in The Hague in the coming period and to consider the possibility of organizing cultural events. The past and future activities between our countries, our cities, can be an example to others of how successful and intensive cooperation fosters the connection of young people, promotes culture, tourism, and other potentials of our countries, which ultimately leads to the rapprochement of states and their citizens, Bećirović emphasized.

At the end of the meeting, a group of students from Maris College high school in The Hague presented the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, with a letter in which they once again express their support for young people and their peers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with whom they have established close cooperation in recent years. As part of this cooperation, students from Maris College in The Hague and the Second Gymnasium from Sarajevo participated together in an EU project related to a debate on the future of Europe, which was held in all EU member states.
