Bećirović: The President of Bulgaria proposed that we open a direct flight line between Sarajevo and Sofia as soon as possible

(Patria) - Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović spoke today in Sarajevo with the President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev.

After the meeting, Bećirović stated at a press conference that the two countries have traditionally sincere and good friendly relations.

He also recalled that Bulgaria was the first country in the world to recognize the independence of BiH in 1992, reports Fena.

- Our countries want to intensify overall cooperation, and in this regard, the visit of the esteemed President Radev is a contribution to intensifying relations in the coming period.

We want even stronger political, economic, and all other ties between our two countries.

Bulgaria is a full member of NATO and the EU, and these are also our unanimously defined strategic foreign policy goals - stated Bećirović.

He added that at the meeting they noted that "we have very good bilateral and multilateral cooperation and we want to continue this cooperation in the coming period in the best interest of the citizens of both BiH and Bulgaria".

- We jointly concluded that there are numerous opportunities to strengthen cooperation, and President Radev proposed that we work together to open a direct flight line between Sarajevo and Sofia as soon as possible.

I think this is an excellent idea that would further contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries - emphasized Bećirović.

He stated that they jointly concluded that overall economic cooperation can be at a much higher level, and therefore their goal is to effectively connect businessmen and chambers of commerce even after this meeting.

Bećirović informed Radev that BiH harmonized almost 100 percent of its foreign policy with the European Union's foreign and security policy last year.

- I also thanked President Radev because 121 members of the EUFOR Althea mission come precisely from the Bulgarian Armed Forces, as this is an important message.

The Althea mission is important for Bosnia and Herzegovina. A session of the UN Security Council will likely be held on November 1st, and I hope that this mission will be extended - concluded Bećirović.
