Bećirović: Bosnia and Herzegovina's greatest strength lies in its citizens

SREBRENIK, (Patria) - At the promotion of his book in Srebrenik, Denis Bećirović stated in the crowded hall of the Srebrenik Cultural Center that "this ancient Bosnian royal city, the capital of Bosnian rulers from a time when many present-day European countries were not even in their infancy, is a permanent reminder of our rich, proud history.

- We must develop awareness of our homeland as one of the oldest European states, primarily for ourselves, but also for those who think that Bosnia and Herzegovina depends on the will of anyone other than its citizens. Bosnia and Herzegovina is an indestructible state.

Bećirović explained that "developing a state-building consciousness is of crucial importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina for other reasons as well.

- We must be aware of our value and our indigenous culture. We must not allow submissive policies and mentalities to dominate society, in which we belittle our own and glorify others'. The consequence of such an attitude can only be the belittling of our state and resources by those who have skillfully benefited from the submissive attitude of domestic political factors in the past.

We have no other homeland. This land is the matrix and mother of all its people. All others are welcome as friends, guests, or partners, but not as any kind of tutors or so-called protectors. We have shown that we can and know how to protect ourselves, precisely from those who still try today to impose their own retrograde political agendas and ideas that are incompatible with our tradition of coexistence, understanding, and solidarity - concluded Bećirović.
