Bećirović: Željka Cvijanović's Opinions Are Not Official State Positions of BiH

(Patria) - Following the latest unfounded messages from the Chairwoman of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, in Brussels, BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović pointed out legal and other facts to the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the EU Enlargement Commissioner, Marta Kos.

- According to the BiH Constitution, the BiH Presidency is responsible for defining and conducting the foreign policy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Members of the BiH Presidency are obliged to act in accordance with adopted state laws, strategies, and other acts that define the strategic foreign policy goals of BiH as membership in the EU and NATO - Bećirović said on that occasion.

He added that the BiH Presidency did not make a decision regarding Chairwoman Željka Cvijanović's trip to Brussels and her appearance on behalf of the state of BiH during meetings with EU officials. Therefore, her views do not represent the official state position of BiH.

"The views of Mrs. Cvijanović represent exclusively her personal opinion, which does not bind either the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina or the European Union.

Any presentation of views that are not in line with the adopted strategic foreign policy goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina constitutes an abuse of the function of Chairwoman of the BiH Presidency.

Therefore, it is completely unacceptable for Mrs. Željka Cvijanović, in her capacity as Chairwoman of the BiH Presidency, instead of representing the official positions of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to present the views of one administrative-territorial unit within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The only subject of international law is the independent, sovereign, and indivisible state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Entities within the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina are not authorized to independently create or implement foreign policy, as this is the exclusive competence of state institutions.

Unfortunately, Mrs. Željka Cvijanović, as well as some other officials from the Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity of Republika Srpska, have for some time been carrying out concerning anti-Dayton and pro-Russian activities, which threaten peace, stability, and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The messages of Mrs. Željka Cvijanović, by which she attempts to undermine the clearly prescribed authority of the High Representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Constitutional Court of BiH, are her personal views, which do not have the support of the state bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina and do not reflect the commitment of the majority of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Finally, it should not be forgotten that the leaders of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity of Republika Srpska awarded the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the highest order of the entity of Republika Srpska. The fact that this was done in the midst of Russian aggression against Ukraine speaks volumes about the danger of such a policy, not only for Bosnia and Herzegovina but also more broadly - Bećirović concluded.
