Bećirović: Only the state of BiH has continuity, not the entities

(Patria) - On the occasion of the illegal celebration of January 9 as the so-called Day of Republika Srpska, BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović stated that the fundamental obligation of all authorities is to respect the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of BiH.

This includes full respect for the final and binding decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH. Disrespecting these decisions constitutes a criminal offense under the Criminal Code of BiH. Therefore, it is important for judicial institutions and law enforcement agencies to react promptly and take the necessary measures within their jurisdiction.

"The Constitutional Court of BiH has determined that January 9, as the date of celebration in the Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity of Republika Srpska, does not reflect the common values of all peoples and citizens, i.e., it does not represent a symbol of collective shared memory, as it symbolizes only one, the Serb people, and was adopted without the consent of other peoples and citizens. The Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity of Republika Srpska has existed within the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina since the date of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement. The Constitution of BiH clearly stipulates that only the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina has continuity. Entities do not have continuity, and no celebration of illegal holidays can change this fact.

The anti-civilization policy of separating the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the attempt to create a para-state on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina were in complete opposition to the domestic legal system and the provisions of international law. That policy resulted in crimes against humanity and other war crimes, and culminated in 1995 with the commission of genocide against Bosniaks. These are undisputed legal facts that have been established by the judgments of the highest courts of the United Nations.

The authorities of neighboring the Republic of Serbia, instead of flagrantly interfering in the internal affairs of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and undermining the final and binding decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, are obliged to respect the Dayton Peace Agreement. Any other behavior by Serbian officials constitutes a violation of international law and the fundamental values on which the European Union is based.
