Bećirović performs Eid prayer in Prijedor: Hambarine symbolizes painful history, but also strength

(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović performed the Eid prayer this morning in the mosque in the Hambarine community near Prijedor, where he extended congratulations on the occasion of Kurban Bajram to all Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora.

Bećirović wished the faithful that this holiday pass in peace, comfort, and family warmth, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and togetherness.

After the prayer, the BiH Presidency member spoke with the gathered citizens, representatives of the Islamic Community, and the local community. In a statement to the media, he said that it is particularly important for him to spend Kurban Bajram precisely in Hambarine, a place that, as he emphasized, symbolizes a painful history, but also the strength of return, perseverance, and dignity.



"This place is proof that, despite a difficult past, we can return, rebuild our homes, places of worship, and dignity. The return of the displaced and the preservation of every inch of our country are of key importance for the integrity and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Bećirović stated.

He especially thanked the residents of Prijedor for what he called a cordial and warm hospitality, emphasizing the importance of strengthening a state based on the equality of all citizens and peoples.

The mosque in Hambarine has a deep symbolic meaning – it was the first mosque destroyed in Prijedor in 1992, and it was rebuilt and officially opened in July 2008. Fourteen years later, a second minaret was built next to it – the "Martyrs' Minaret," on which the names of 327 martyrs from this community are engraved.
