Bećirović: Southern Interconnection has strategic importance for BiH

(Patria) - A joint session of the Council for Economic Affairs, the Council for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and the Council for Foreign Policy, operating within the Cabinet of the BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović, was held in Sarajevo today.

The session reviewed the issue of energy security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a special focus on the Southern Gas Interconnection project.

During the discussion, it was emphasized that energy security is one of the key issues for the long-term stability, sovereignty, and overall resilience of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that the Southern Gas Interconnection project has multiple strategic significances for the country.

It was highlighted that the Southern Gas Interconnection contributes to the diversification of natural gas supply sources and routes, and to strengthening the energy independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was assessed that this is a project of special strategic importance for the long-term interests of the state.

Bećirović pointed out that energy security is one of the key strategic issues for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it directly affects the overall stability, economic development, and international position of the country.

He emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to pursue a responsible and long-term sustainable energy policy, based on strengthening energy independence and the resilience of the energy system.

He also pointed out that the formation of the Council for Economic Affairs, the Council for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and the Council for Foreign Policy has fully justified its purpose during the current mandate.

Bećirović underscored that the councils' continuous work has contributed to a better understanding of numerous important issues in our country, which is of particular importance.

It was particularly emphasized that bringing together prominent representatives of the academic and professional public allows for the consideration of key issues from different perspectives.

In this context, Bećirović thanked the members of the councils for their engagement and constructive contribution to the work so far.
