Bećirović and Komšić in New York: Everyone must respect international law and UN court rulings

(Patria) - The Chairman and member of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić spoke with the Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General for the Prevention of Genocide Alice Wairimu Nderitu.

In the UN headquarters in New York, they also discussed the presentation of the Draft Resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica committed in 1995.

Bećirović and Komšić emphasized that the adoption of the resolution in the UN General Assembly will highlight the global importance of genocide prevention.

They also stressed that the leaders of the BiH entity RS and the highest officials of the Republic of Serbia should stop denying the final verdicts of UN courts and that they have an obligation to respect international law and UN court rulings.

The UN Secretary-General's Special Advisor for the Prevention of Genocide, Alice Wairimu Nderitu, said that Srebrenica is a very important place for the whole world, and emphasized the importance of warning about the consequences that hate speech and denial of the genocide in Srebrenica can have.

She also recalled her address during the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, when she stated that any denial of genocide hinders reconciliation, which is why it is important to work on criminalizing the glorification of war criminals.

Therefore, she strongly encourages the campaign against genocide denial and initiates the establishment of educational programs, which will be based on the principle from "courtroom to classroom", all with the aim of preventing revisionism and the recurrence of genocide in the future.

Bećirović and Komšić emphasized that the resolution, among other things, condemns any denial of the genocide in Srebrenica and calls on UN member states to preserve established facts.
