Bećirović and Komšić with Ambassadors of UN Member States on the Importance of Adopting the Resolution on Srebrenica

(Patria) - Chairman and member of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić attended a working lunch with ambassadors of member states and UN officials. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of BiH to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija.

The importance of adopting the Resolution on July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica, committed in 1995, was discussed.

Bećirović and Komšić emphasized to the present ambassadors of member states and UN officials the significance of international solidarity in confronting the past to ensure that a crime like the one in Srebrenica never happens again.

- Our obligation to the victims, their families, and future generations is civilizational, and together we must fight against forgetting and denial - Bećirović stated.



By denying the committed genocide against Bosniaks in and around Srebrenica, as well as glorifying convicted war criminals, genocide survivors are daily exposed to attacks on their dignity.

- By adopting this resolution, we would also provide support to the mothers of Srebrenica in their fight for truth and justice. Furthermore, the Resolution would aid the process of reconciliation within Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the region - Bećirović and Komšić stated.

They also emphasized the global importance of genocide prevention, and the significance of studying genocide in the education of children and youth.

Through education about Srebrenica, young people acquire the ability to recognize and confront genocide, and actively engage in preventing genocide in the future.

The integration of this topic into the educational system provides the foundation for building a society based on respect for diversity, justice, and reconciliation, thereby contributing to the long-term preservation of peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
