(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović spoke in London with the UK Minister for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty. The meeting was also attended by Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić.
Bećirović informed Minister Doughty about the serious security threats facing Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have been further intensified in the last few months. He added that these are organized and systematic attempts to undermine the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its institutions by the leadership of the BiH entity RS, which openly denies the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, threatens secession and demands the expulsion of international representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He emphasized that this is the most severe attack by the RS entity leadership on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Dayton Peace Agreement as a whole, which not only halts reform processes but directly threatens the peace and security of the state and the region. Therefore, support for the efficient and professional work of the independent judiciary is of utmost importance for stabilizing the situation in the country.
Bećirović stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the UK, as well as enhancing cooperation in the areas of economy, security, defense and other fields. He also thanked Minister Doughty for supporting the organization of the event "Remembering Srebrenica UK", which this year again marked the anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in and around Srebrenica in London.
During the meeting, Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić highlighted the importance of continued support from the United Kingdom for preserving stability, peace and accelerating the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Opinions were exchanged on the current political situation in BiH, as well as on regional cooperation processes.
During the discussion on the Summit of leaders of the Berlin Process, which will be held in the United Kingdom this year, Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić emphasized its importance, noting that he has supported this process from the very beginning because it is tailored to the needs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, and represents a significant mechanism for strengthening good neighborly relations, regional stability and faster approximation of our country to the European Union.
Minister Doughty emphasized the importance of preserving peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that it is necessary to work on strengthening state institutions. He particularly highlighted the importance of respecting the constitutional order and the rule of law, as well as removing obstacles to the integration processes of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Doughty also expressed the UK's strong commitment to a democratic and multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina, its sovereignty, territorial integrity, as well as the security of the state and its citizens. He expressed the UK's particular interest in overcoming current challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He stressed that the UK, as the host of the next Berlin Process summit, will work dedicatedly to ensure that this event also serves as an effective platform for improving relations in the region, and thus stabilizing the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Minister Doughty expressed the UK's firm commitment to continuing support for Bosnia and Herzegovina through various programs and initiatives aimed at improving democratic processes and the rule of law, including a strategic partnership with the EU, and joint projects, which are focused on stabilizing the situation and intensifying reform processes.
