Barroso: EU accession is a common goal, regional cooperation is needed

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso reported on the conclusions of the Berlin Conference on Twitter, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Barroso stated that the accession of the Western Balkan countries to the EU is a common goal and that it will happen over time.

- This progress is real, as seen in the case of Croatia's accession and the recent steps in Serbia, Albania and Kosovo - Barroso wrote, adding that the European Commission supports the Western Balkan countries on their European path, but that the responsibility for key reforms lies in their hands.

He also said that cooperation among the countries of the region is key to achieving progress.

- The EU will continue to play a leading role. Nearly 12 billion euros in aid is planned for the period 2014-2020, of which 2 billion euros for regional projects - Barroso wrote, adding that discussions were held on overcoming obstacles in the region such as transport links and the energy sector, writes Patria.
