Balkans in Germany cheat their workers

Gastarbeiters from the Balkans, including Serbia, who go to Germany in search of work, relying on secure earnings, are increasingly becoming victims of various fraudsters in that orderly country as well, reports the news agency Patria.

An example of this is Croatian citizen Darko Jurišić, who found a job in February this year at the company „Kakor“ in Offenbach. Work permits were quickly obtained and an hourly wage of 10 euros was agreed upon at a construction site.

However, it turned out, as reported by „Deutsche Welle“, that the owner of the company, Damir Karpinski, originally from Sandžak, is a fraudster who, after paying Jurišić only once, disappeared without a trace. Even worse, he took with him the money paid to him for workers' wages by the main contractor, the company „Dressler Bau“, leaving around 300 workers, including 100 Croats, without a euro. In addition to losing their wages, they also lost their roof over their heads because the company from Offenbach did not pay for the workers' accommodation either.

Such examples of fraud in Germany are becoming more frequent.

- Since the European Union began to expand eastward, the number of cases of Eastern European workers who, after working in Germany, have been left without wages is increasing every day. However, when talking about these cases, it is mostly about companies from the EU East that operate as subcontractors in Germany and employ workers from their own countries on construction sites. If these companies violate German social laws, it is very difficult for the judiciary in Germany to legally prosecute the owners of companies located abroad - claims Vladimir Bogoeski from the counseling center „Fair Mobility“ at the German Trade Union Federation (DGB), write Serbian media.
