Baljić: We do not have a single case of coronavirus

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Committee for Microbiology and Related Disciplines of the Department of Medical Sciences of ANUBiH organized an expanded meeting dedicated to the analysis of the bio-security situation in the world and BiH, caused by the emergence of the new coronavirus COVID-2019, and on this occasion, the head of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases of KCUS, Rusmir Baljić, said that everything is functional and that so far we have not had a single suspected case.

"Currently, as far as the coronavirus infection is concerned, which, fortunately for us, is predominantly present in 99% of cases in China, we can say that we are fully prepared. Everything is functional, from border surveillance, from reporting suspected cases, from their isolation, primarily in home conditions, so there is no need for quarantine, because so far we have not had a single suspected case," stated Baljić.

He added that even if the worst outcome occurs, there are staff and equipment to respond to the task. ANUBiH recognized the problem in order to assess existing knowledge and take certain measures to combat the coronavirus.

Mirsada Hukić from the Committee for Microbiology and Related Disciplines of the Department of Medical Sciences of ANUBIH said that it is difficult to say how threatened BiH is.

"It is difficult to say how threatened BiH is, the most important thing is how the virus will behave," says Hukić.

Prof. Dr. Damir Marjanović said that BiH does not have a plan and program when it comes to coronavirus.

"Not enough is known about the virus yet. Genetics and geneticists have done a good job, prepared a test. BiH has experts and equipment, chemicals that recognize the infection can be obtained, but due to the lack of a plan and program, it is difficult to implement for now," emphasized Prof. Damir Marjanović.
