Balašević's final voyage on the Danube: Novi Sad bid him farewell with music and roses

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Several thousand people gathered in Novi Sad tonight at 7 PM on the Quay of the Raid Victims to bid farewell to their fellow citizen, the legendary Đorđe Balašević.

In recent days, farewells have been organized across the region, and tonight, with an event called "The Night Đole Swam the Danube," the people of Novi Sad will symbolically see off their Pannonian sailor with lanterns, rosemary, song, the choir of the Opera of the Serbian National Theatre, and a final salute from Danube boats.

The farewell on the Danube quay began with thunderous applause, followed by the lyrics of the song "Sine moj" (My Son). Two choirs are performing songs by the legendary singer-songwriter, and the farewell will last until 9 PM.

With acoustic guitar and white roses from the banks of the Danube, the people of Novi Sad wished the Pannonian sailor calm seas on his final voyage.

Hundreds of people were also on the Rainbow Bridge, and songs echo from nearby boats. On the banks of the Danube, besides locals from Novi Sad, many people came from other cities in Serbia and the region.
