Bakalar: The main message is that elections must happen!

(Patria) - Željko Bakalar, President of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, held a meeting with the US envoy for electoral reform, Matthew Palmer, and EU representative Angelina Eichhorst. As Bakalar pointed out, the most important message he conveyed is that elections must happen.

“Representatives of the international community are seeking ways to find an opportunity to convince Bosnian politicians of the necessity of changes – first to the Constitution and then to the Election Law. I assume that is the reason why representatives of several political parties will participate in these talks, given that general consensus requires agreement in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he added.
He emphasized that during the meeting he pointed out problems of an organizational nature.

“We pointed out the fact that all changes that need to follow must happen very quickly, given that we, as the fundamental body of election administration in Bosnia and Herzegovina, must prepare every organizational aspect, considering we have various software modules and must also adopt a series of by-laws to adapt the electoral system of Bosnia and Herzegovina to any potential changes to the Election Law.

For all this, there is a need to make maximum effort to prepare all these acts and our unique election information system for possibly some new models by the beginning of the fifth month, given that we must call elections and be ready in case of changes to the law,” Bakalar stated.
