Bakalar responded to Krišto: The general elections in 2026 will undoubtedly take place because the law allows it even without a budget

(Patria) - The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, warned today about the serious consequences that "could arise due to the blockade of the adoption of financial documents preceding the adoption of the state budget".

Krišto cited the fact that the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH, Nermin Nikšić, refused to vote for these documents as the key problem, which has "called into question the normal functioning of institutions at the state level".

She emphasized that this is not a technical or procedural issue, but a move that directly affects the stability of the system and the fulfillment of legally defined obligations.

- This directly endangers the key obligations of BiH institutions, including the planned increase in the base for calculating salaries of employees in BiH institutions, as well as securing the necessary funds for the implementation of the General Elections - said Krišto.

She was answered by Željko Bakalar, a member of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH, who emphasized in a social media post that the holding of elections is not in question.

In a post on the X platform, Bakalar wrote that the legal framework allows for the holding of elections even in the absence of an adopted budget.

"The general elections in 2026 will undoubtedly take place because the law allows it even without a budget. Political obstruction through (in)visible methods threatens the implementation of elections with electoral technologies on election day in 2026, and the CEC BiH is continuing to make superhuman, solitary efforts to have everything ready for 2026," Bakalar stated.
