Bajić: We have a snake infestation in Odžak, we urgently need antivenom

It is known that after floods comes a snake infestation, which have also left their shelters fleeing from water and are now literally crawling through the streets, writes the Patria News Agency. However, in BiH there is very little antivenom, and the Health Center in Odžak is left without a single dose. As Sanela Bajić, responsible for the procurement of antivenom, vaccines, and insulin at the Odžak Health Center, confirmed to NAP, they received four doses of antivenom in the afternoon, but she notes that this is a negligible amount compared to the population.

- There are more than 12,000 citizens here, and it is already evident that we have a snake infestation. We had five doses of antivenom, but they have already been used up because we had snakebites. These four doses we received will last us for the next two or three days – says Bajić.

She adds that it is extremely difficult to procure antivenom, as the ones used in Europe are specific to those regions.

- I received information that an elementary school in Sarajevo collected 2,000 KM, and we will get antivenom against snakebites from that. I don't know which school it is, but we will find out – added Bajić, noting that there will be more snakebites given that the clearing of the terrain has just begun.
