Avdić for NAP: Miners have started a hunger strike, we will not give up until the situation is resolved

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Union of the Zenica Brown Coal Mine (ZD RMUZ), together with all representatives of brigades and services, went on a hunger strike tonight at 6 PM, Elvedin Avdić, president of the Union of the “Stara jama” plant, told the Patria News Agency.

“After all these events, people wanted to stop work as early as Friday, but we negotiated with them to work over the weekend. And they did work, but on Monday we started a work disobedience”, said Avdić.

He adds that a session of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Miners of the Federation of BiH was held on Tuesday, but no one has contacted them yet. He emphasizes that they sent letters to which, also, no one responded.

“We, at the meeting of the RMU Zenica union, reached an agreement to go on a hunger strike. We decided not to risk the health of other comrades, that only we from the union, representatives of brigades and services, would be on strike. The strike will last until our situation is finally resolved”, Avdić states.

We remind you, the accounts of RMU Zenica and RMU Breza have been blocked since January 8 due to debts for contributions. The debt of RMU Zenica is 4.9 million KM, and RMU Breza owes 4.5 million KM.

These accounts were unblocked in January for the payment of December salaries, and since then they have been blocked again.

A general strike is scheduled for February 12 in both mines.
