Avdić: Many Political Parties That Do Not Wish BiH Well Want to Bring Down Dr. Cerić

The candidacy of Dr. Mustafa Cerić for the Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency continues to provoke various comments in the public, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP). Sead Avdić, former BiH ambassador to India and one of the key actors in the defense of Tuzla on May 15, 1992, says that Cerić's initial appearance is extremely well-intentioned towards all political options.

- So far, he has shown that he wants to be a candidate for all people who wish BiH well. In this context, we should consider what will happen next. It remains to be seen the further path in the election campaign - says Avdić for NAP.

He adds that given the contaminated political scene in BiH, burdened by criminal acts, Dr. Cerić's candidacy is good.

- Taking into account that all parties have become interest groups of individuals bound only by interests, I would still be inclined and free to say that Mr. Cerić's candidacy is a brave gesture. A gesture, if sincere to the end, and there should be no doubt because it concerns a former reisu-l-ulema who was in the Islamic Community for 20 years - added Avdić.

Professor Avdić notes that Dr. Cerić comes from a healthier environment compared to the political establishment of BiH.

- Then one can expect him to bring some fresh tones, now the controversies that the aura of the reisu-l-ulema creates prejudices, I think are not justified. The basic and fundamental human right is that every person has the right to run for office and prejudices have no basis or foundation - added Avdić.

On the other hand, Avdić believes, the propaganda that largely aims to bring down Cerić comes from Banja Luka and forces that are not well-intentioned towards the state of BiH.

- Certainly, Mr. Cerić would not tolerate what is happening in BiH from the aspect of threats of secession, blackmail through entity voting, etc. Many political forces that do not wish BiH well are trying to organize and, based on these prejudices, bring down Cerić. We will see what will happen, but I think he is very persistent - added Avdić.
