Arnaut supports Duraković and leaves SBB

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Damir Arnaut today informed the leadership of the Alliance for a Better Future of BiH (SBB) that he is leaving SBB, and that in the state Parliament he will henceforth act as an independent representative, in accordance with Article 1.9 of the Election Law of BiH.

Arnaut stated that SBB's announcement of initiating legal proceedings against Jasna Duraković makes his continued membership in that party impossible.

“It is my duty to protect and advocate for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and for issues of paramount political and public interest. In light of the announced proceedings against Ms. Duraković, I am resigning from membership in SBB within the scope of these duties,” Arnaut added.

In his message, Arnaut emphasized that in the state Parliament he will continue to act “in accordance with the promises made to voters and past successes – towards reducing privileges and public spending, protecting the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens, including veterans persecuted by neighboring countries, judicial independence, the fight against all forms of terrorism, corruption and conflicts of interest, protection of human rights, progress towards NATO and EU membership, and other such issues.”

Arnaut also conveyed that other parties “should understand that this move of mine represents freedom of action and expression, not a conflict with SBB. In such circumstances, they should not expect me to agree to betray my principles,” Arnaut stated.
