Arnaut: BiH will receive the Denis Mrnjavac award to prevent peer violence

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At yesterday's session of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament, the initiative of MP Damir Arnaut from Our Party to establish the "Denis Mrnjavac" award, in memory of him and all other girls and boys who were victims of violence, was adopted.

It is foreseen that the award will be given annually to one primary school student and one secondary school student, upon nomination by any school in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was voted that the award should consist of a sculpture, a special recognition in the form of a charter, and an appropriate recognition for the school of the awarded student, with details to be further specified by the Council of Ministers.

Arnaut submitted the initiative for procedure on February 5, the day before the 13th anniversary of the brutal murder of Denis Mrnjavac, a sixteen-year-old second-year student of the Gymnasium of the Catholic School Centre in Sarajevo, who was brutally and recklessly killed by hooligans on a tram near the Technical School, a few hundred meters from the state parliament building where this initiative was adopted yesterday. This murder shocked Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the wider region, and constantly reminds us of the need to combat peer violence.

Arnaut emphasized that he will establish close cooperation with the competent Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH with the aim of implementing this initiative as soon as possible, and that he will advocate for further strengthening the memory of Denis Mrnjavac and other victims of peer violence, and in that regard, he supports the efforts of the Youth Association "Denis Mrnjavac" to name the square in front of the Technical School after this boy.
