APIK without director for over a year, candidates' names under review by CEC and SIPA

(Patria) - The Commission for the Selection and Monitoring of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption (APIK) did not hold a session today due to lack of quorum, and a new attempt will be on Monday, December 15.

The Commission held a session on September 22, where it reviewed applications received for the Public Call for the appointment of the director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption.

Five applications were received for the call published in May, and the candidates for the director position are Elvir Pilav, Hajro Pošković, Jasmin Pilica, Alen Halep, and Emir Bašić.

Interestingly, Bašić is the current director of the Federal Agency for the Management of Confiscated Property, while Halep is an APIK employee. Pilica is the coordinator for legal affairs in the audit at the Office for Audit of Institutions of BiH and a former director of the Agency for Police Support. Pošković is the long-time deputy director of the Secretariat of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), whose mandate expires in 2026. Elvir Pilav is a graduate lawyer.

After the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) complete their checks, the Commission should conduct interviews with the candidates, after which it will rank them. The appointment of the APIK director must pass both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

This position has been vacant since the resignation of Elvis Kondžić in October 2024, who was dismissed from the position of director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption at the session of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH in November, and in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH in early December 2024.

APIK is managed by deputies Damirka Mioč and Rade Ristović.

The position of APIK director belongs to the quota of directors to be filled by candidates from among the Bosniaks.
