Appeal for Help: Only Hope for 14-Year-Old Izudin from Srebrenica is Surgery in Turkey

Izudin Jašarević is a 14-year-old boy from Srebrenica. Izudin's family was among the first to return to their native village of Brakovci, about 15 kilometers from Srebrenica. Until yesterday, Izudin was a schoolboy with few worries in life; today, this brave boy is fighting for his life, and he needs our help, reports the Patria news agency.

OTVORENA MREŽA has launched a fundraising campaign for assistance. Once again, a Bosnian family is fighting for the life of a minor child. Izudin Jašarević, a 14-year-old boy from Srebrenica, needs the help of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Every day at OTVORENA MREŽA, we receive calls from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the Federation and the Republika Srpska, from citizens who are sick, abandoned, and left to seek solutions for their lives and recovery on their own, outside the institutions of the Bosnian system. One such family from Srebrenica, a day before July 11, asked for help from OTVORENA MREŽA for their 14-year-old son, Izudin Jašarević, who, according to Bosnian doctors, needs a head surgery for which they were told „it could be done in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it would be better to do it somewhere outside Bosnia and Herzegovina."

What to do when people in white coats, who are everything to you at that moment, tell you for your minor child „it's better to finish this somewhere abroad," and the Health Insurance Fund of the respective entity has no solution for you, nor does the Fund of the other entity because you are from the first one, and you need to react immediately? What is it like to be the parent of a sick child in Bosnia and Herzegovina with such answers!?

Last Friday, OTVORENA MREŽA activated its centers and coordinators and, under an urgent procedure, contacted one of the best Turkish hospitals, which has a specialized department for this type of disease, and one of the best pediatric neurosurgeons, Prof. Dr. Memet Ozek, and submitted all medical findings and the MRI of this boy.

Within 24 hours of seeing the MRI and medical findings of Izudin Jašarević, Dr. Ozek informed us that the situation is much more serious than we expected - he told us that it is an extremely difficult case and that Izudin needs surgery as soon as possible, but also that he is confident his team can successfully resolve this problem.

The administrative service then provided us with the information that this type of treatment requires 90,000 KM, of which hospital costs amount to 75,000 KM, and the remainder for other types of expenses.

OTVORENA MREŽA is currently in constant contact with the Jašarević family, as well as the Municipality of Srebrenica. The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Turkish Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina are also getting involved. Through this, we call on all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to help this family in raising funds for the treatment of their 14-year-old son.
