MUP KS Appeals to Dog Owners

(Patria) - During 2020, the police of Sarajevo Canton recorded and documented 15 incidents with characteristics of criminal offenses under Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of BiH (negligent keeping of dogs and other dangerous animals).

"Namely, the provisions of the aforementioned article stipulate that a person who takes dogs or other animals to public places without a prescribed muzzle or other appropriate protection and without direct supervision, thereby causing danger to people's lives or bodies or property, shall be punished with a fine or imprisonment of up to six months, and if someone is physically injured in this way, the perpetrator shall be punished with imprisonment of up to three years.

Also, the Law on Misdemeanors against Public Order and Peace of Sarajevo Canton prescribes a fine of 500.00 to 1500.00 KM for perpetrators of misdemeanors who keep and lead dangerous animals without supervision or protective equipment that can frighten or injure others, or who mistreat animals in a public place, or otherwise treat them cruelly.

In this regard, we appeal to dog owners to keep their dogs in public places in the prescribed manner, as otherwise they may be sanctioned by police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, who will intensify controls on compliance with the prescribed legal norms in the coming period.

Special attention will be paid to patrolling streets, squares, parks, and places where children and the elderly stay, and where people appear who walk dogs contrary to the previously stated legal provisions," the MUP KS announced.
