Poll results published on Friday show an increase in the popularity of the German Social Democrats (SPD), which is considered a consequence of the election of Martin Schulz as a candidate in the federal elections on September 24. Support for Angela Merkel's conservatives has also declined, agencies report, Patria reports.
A survey conducted by Forschungsgruppe Wahlen for ZDF showed that the SPD gained 6 percentage points, reaching 30 percent support. This is the highest level achieved so far in this legislative period for a specific poll. Angela Merkel's conservative bloc lost 2 points to 34 percent.
