Additional 100 workers to be engaged for 60 days to improve winter maintenance in Sarajevo Canton

(Patria) - The Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton, in order to improve winter maintenance and the situation on the ground, agreed yesterday with the Public Institution Employment Service of Sarajevo Canton on the additional engagement of labor force through KJKP Rad.

In accordance with the agreement, the employment of up to 100 workers for a period of up to 60 days is planned, based on contracts for performing occasional and temporary jobs. The workers will primarily be engaged in snow removal at locations where it cannot be done with standard mechanization and must be done manually. During periods without snowfall, these workers will be engaged in maintaining communal cleanliness in the Sarajevo Canton.

"KJKP Rad is obliged to initiate the procedure as soon as possible, so that additional workers can be deployed to the field as soon as possible. Aware of the fact that heavy and prolonged snowfall, low temperatures, as well as the specifics of the urban environment, pose an additional burden on the winter maintenance system and public utility companies in the field, the Ministry and competent companies are continuously working to strengthen operational capacities in order to improve the situation," stated the relevant ministry.

According to information from the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration, the freezing rain and snowfall that occurred during the night, in addition to traffic problems in the Canton, did not cause major problems in the provision of other communal services.

Water levels of all watercourses in the KS area are continuously decreasing, while members of the Professional Firefighting Unit of the KS Cantonal Civil Protection Administration had three minor interventions.

The Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters of Stari Grad is conducting 24-hour monitoring of the terrain in landslide-prone areas, at the locations of Curine njive, Knjeginjac and Bistrički potok, as well as continuous analysis and assessment of the situation in the endangered area in order to ensure the timely implementation of protection measures for the population and material goods.

In the past 24 hours, all available mechanization of the KJKP Rad winter service has been engaged in cleaning roads in the area of four city municipalities, in accordance with the company's responsibilities. Roads of priority I and partly II have been cleaned, and once they are completely cleaned, cleaning of roads of priority III and IV will commence.

The supply of electricity to consumers in the KS area is regular, except for certain areas that were planned to be disconnected due to necessary maintenance work on energy facilities.

All consumers are regularly supplied with natural gas, while water supply is regular, except in parts of certain settlements where planned repairs of breakdowns in the water supply network are being carried out.
