Germany's engagement remains focused on mine victims

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Christiane Hohmann, together with the Deputy Director of the organization “Enhancing Human Security” (ITF), Sabina Beber Bostjančić, signed another agreement, by which the Federal Republic of Germany is making available funds in the amount of 100,000 euros for mine victims affected in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Thus, Germany, in addition to humanitarian demining, is also engaged for mine victims this year. The funds made available by Germany will be used by the Miracle Center in Mostar and URI Soča in Slovenia to procure first, or adjust subsequent prostheses for many individuals, as well as to provide psychological treatment for affected mine victims.

Within the international body, chaired by the German Embassy, mine victims from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina are selected. This will give mine victims, if possible, another opportunity to integrate into professional life. According to sources from the Mine Action Center (BHMAC), there are 7,968 mine victims, both war veterans and civilian victims.

Of these, 1,665 are post-war victims, while fortunately, the number of new victims per year has significantly decreased. Experts, deminers, are always the most affected by this. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has so far made almost 33.5 million euros available to Bosnia and Herzegovina. These funds have been used primarily for demining.
