Analysts: Izetbegović and Čović's pressure on judiciary in Radončić case is unacceptable

Professor at the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies in Sarajevo, Dr. Goran Kovačević, believes that the influence on the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina exerted by the Chair of the Presidency of BiH Dragan Čović and member of the Presidency of BiH Bakir Izetbegović is unacceptable, after SIPA arrested SBB leader Fahrudin Radončić for obstructing the judiciary.

Izetbegović said that Radončić “deserves to defend himself from freedom,” while Čović stated that Radončić is his friend and that he is confident he will be able to deal with this setup! Analysts assessed that politicians thereby exerted influence on the judiciary and are trying to determine the further course of the Radončić case.

- This was not recorded even in Stalinist Russia. With these statements, Čović and Izetbegović sent a clear message to the BiH judiciary about the need to adapt their activities to the wishes of politicians in the Radončić case – says Kovačević for the Patria agency.

However, as for the question of why senior officials of Bosnia and Herzegovina behaved in such a manner, Kovačević has no dilemma.

- They do it out of fear of the possibility of finding themselves in the same position as Radončić – Kovačević believes.

He said that the judiciary has an obligation to work exclusively according to the law, and not according to anyone's wishes, Patria writes.

Professor of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Tuzla, Dr. Zlatan Begić, also said that nowhere in the world does a high-ranking executive official declare that what the judiciary is doing “does not suit him at all.” For Dr. Begić, this represents a blow to the stability of the people, a step backward, Patria writes.
