Ana Mrnjavac: Young people must learn a lesson from Denis's death

The ninth anniversary of the tragic death of Sarajevo high school student Denis Mrnjavac was marked today by laying flowers in front of his photograph at the tram stop „Tehnička škola“ in the direction of Ilidža. 

Mrnjavac was a sixteen-year-old boy, a second-year student at the Catholic School Center in Sarajevo, who was brutally stabbed on his way from school to home in a crowded tram, and died from severe injuries on February 6, 2008. Since that day, Denis has become a symbol of violence against children carried out on the streets of our city and homeland.

Denis's mother Ana Mrnjavac said that by marking the anniversary, her son lives on and that young people must take a message from this event.

- This is truly a difficult, painful and sad day, just like the day it happened. I am convinced that my son, who would now be 26 years old, would still be by my side if someone on the tram had reacted, shouted at the hooligans to leave Denis alone, Mrnjavac added.

From the Youth Association „Denis Mrnjavac“ they sent a message that similar things must never happen again, but that the lesson has still not been learned, even after nine years. Friends and relatives showed again this year that Denis, who was attacked without reason by three delinquents on a tram on February 5, 2008, is not forgotten and never will be.
