US officials: Senate must urgently confirm appointment of ambassador to BiH

The US Senate has still not confirmed ambassadors to ten African countries, nor to BiH. The Senate now faces a key decision: whether to confirm the appointments or risk US national security in the world if it does not do so, write former US diplomats Ruth A. Davis and Edward Gnehm, who have served as ambassadors in several countries around the world, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

As stated, US ambassadors are qualified to represent the American people and national interests in the countries where they perform this duty. 

- We cannot wait for the situation to become critical and then send our representative – they state.

Given the fight against terrorism and the situation in African countries, these appointments should happen as soon as possible.

The new US ambassador to BiH, Maureen Cormack, is still awaiting Senate confirmation to take over the post of ambassador, which has been vacant since August 2013 when Patrick Moon left BiH, after more than a year. This is also important regarding NATO membership and the steps BiH is taking on that path.
