US and British Embassies React to Chetnik Gathering in Višegrad

(Patria) - I am shocked by the scenes from Višegrad. Surely many in BiH are disturbed. I hope the authorities will investigate thoroughly. Hate speech has no place in modern society. It is high time to turn towards the future, with mutual respect," tweeted the British Ambassador to BiH, Matt Field, following today's gathering of Chetniks in Višegrad.

Members of the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement in Višegrad are marking the anniversary of the arrest of Chetnik General and World War II war criminal Dragoljub Draža Mihailović, writes Patria.

The Chetniks lined up in the center of Višegrad on Sunday morning, from where the song "There will be hell and the Drina river will run bloody again, here come the Chetniks from the Serbian mountains" was heard.

The US Embassy in BiH also reacted: "We are appalled by reports of nationalist rhetoric during today's event in Višegrad. Such behavior is unacceptable. We expect the relevant institutions to take the necessary steps, address these threats, and hold those responsible accountable."

Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark tweeted that "today's disturbing events in Višegrad that glorify violence and incite hatred only move multi-ethnic BiH and the entire region away from reconciliation and EU principles of values and tolerance."

The president of the Association "Women Victims of War" Bakira Hasečić accused the BiH Minister of Security Dragan Mektić "for not reacting to today's gathering of members of the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement in Višegrad," while she asked the Director of the BiH Border Police Zoran Galić how it was possible for the Chetniks to cross the state border of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
