Goran Zubac, director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SIPA), was yesterday sentenced to one year in prison conditionally, because he negligently violated his duty on February 7 when he refused to provide assistance to the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies during violent demonstrations when the building of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina was set on fire, writes the news agency Patria.
A particular precedent in this case is that the Independent Board of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not want to suspend Zubac, and he continued, despite the court process, to manage the most important police agency in the country.
Zubac's defense has announced an appeal, and the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will also appeal the verdict because it is dissatisfied with the conditional sentence.
The US Embassy in Sarajevo and the Office of the High Representative (OHR) did not want to comment on this case.
The Office of the High Representative does not comment on court proceedings that are still ongoing – says OHR spokesperson Mario Brkić.
From the Embassy of the United States of America, a similar response stating that they “do not comment on ongoing court proceedings, nor on internal personnel matters in the bodies of the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
