US Administration: Dodik undermines the constitutional order of BiH

(Patria) - The United States Department of State (US) published its 2024 Human Rights Report, stating that the attacks by the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, have undermined the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The report, which covers 2024, states that the authorities in Republika Srpska, with a majority Serb population, have taken continuous actions that have significantly threatened state institutions, increased inter-ethnic tensions, and limited freedom of expression.

"Escalating verbal and legal attacks by the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, have undermined the country's constitutional order, and the divisive and provocative rhetoric of the Republika Srpska leadership has contributed to increased political and ethnic tensions across the country," the report published on August 12 states.

The annual human rights reports, published by the US, cover the status of internationally recognized human and labor rights in nearly 200 countries worldwide.

According to the assessment of the US Department of State, significant human rights problems in BiH included serious restrictions on freedom of expression and media freedom, including violence and threats of violence against journalists, and a significant presence of the worst forms of child labor.

The report, in the section concerning Bosnia and Herzegovina, also states that the government has not taken convincing steps to identify and punish officials who have committed human rights abuses.
