Ambassador Cormack: Women are not sufficiently represented at any level of government

The conference "Human Security through the Lens of Gender Equality" is being held today in the building of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, and is also attended by US Ambassador Maureen Cormack, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

She addressed those present and said that "we must be determined to continue working to ensure that women's rights are protected and respected."

- A functioning democracy relies on the active participation of women, but women in BiH are not sufficiently represented at any level of government. Special attention should be paid to gender-based violence against women, which is widespread and underreported. We must ensure an environment in which domestic violence is condemned publicly and everywhere, and not accepted. For BiH to realize its full economic and political potential, women must be equal participants in all aspects of development - said Cormack.
