Ambassador Cormack in Srebrenica accompanied by her daughter Margaret

United States Ambassador Maureen Cormack visited Srebrenica today, the Potočari Memorial Center where she paid tribute to the victims of genocide, and she was accompanied by her daughter Margaret, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Cormack laid flowers in Potočari, together with representatives of the association of families of Srebrenica victims from the Mothers of Srebrenica association. She emphasized that it was very important for her to visit Srebrenica in the first weeks.

She also met with local non-governmental organizations, and visited the "First Elementary School" Srebrenica. In the afternoon, she met with the mayor of this municipality, Ćamil Duraković, and his associates.

The visit of Ambassador Cormack to Srebrenica is yet another confirmation of the US commitment to this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the US Embassy announced.

- The conversation with the mothers of Srebrenica was very emotional and I learned a lot about their personal tragedies - said the ambassador.

With municipal officials, there was discussion about preparations for this year's commemoration, the challenges the municipality faces. The ambassador took the opportunity to congratulate the citizens on the Day of the Municipality of Srebrenica. Representatives of the Municipality presented the US Embassy with a certificate of appreciation for assistance in the reconstruction of the school. Topics of today's meetings included inter-ethnic relations, the economic situation, and how to improve the business climate and create new jobs.

During the visit to the Srebrenica Elementary School, the ambassador spoke with ninth-grade students.

Cormack arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina on January 13 with her husband William and daughter Margaret.
